About 'Simply Opera'
Artistic Director : Martin Rendle

Simply Opera is a small scale opera company which presents opera and concerts throughout the United Kingdom, taking music and drama to venues outside the normal theatre environment and to those who would not normally attend, or not have reasonable access to a theatre.

Simply Opera presents abridged productions of popular operas, operettas, and one act operas in their entirety. Most productions are in English. The company also presents formal and informal concerts, provides corporate entertainment, singers for private functions, and is developing an education and outreach programme for adults and children.

Please contact us for further information about our productions and services.

Programme

Simply Opera will be presenting a number of concert programmes throughout the year. We will also be presenting the following productions and performances:

Coffee Cantata
A staged production of Bach's comic cantata. A story of a father's distress, and his efforts to stop his daughter's disgusting and habitual abuse of coffee!

The Impresario
Simply Opera's adaptation of Mozart's comedy. The squabbling of two Prima Donnas and an impresario's cunning, rewritten, and set around the casting of 'The Marriage of Figaro'.

La Traviata
La Traviata is probably the best known, and loved of Verdi's operas and contains some of his most beautiful and memorable music. It tells the tragic story of the beautiful but consumptive Violetta and her lover Alfredo.

Simply Opera will be presenting their 'reduced version' of La Traviata.
The Opera will be sung in English with a cast of four singers. The staging is simple and intimate and is ideal for the smaller venue and 'in the round' performances. It will also feature and opportunity for the audience to talk with some of the singers and the director about the production.

Oh Vienna!
A romp through the songs of Lehar and Strauss with memorable melodies from the masters of Viennese operetta.

Gala and Dinner Concerts
Famous arias and duets from the world of popular opera and operetta, neapolitan serenades, and a lighter selection of West End and Broadway favourites.
